Le Sueur County is actively working on providing resources and relief to those affected by the flood. In addition to our website (lesueurcounty.gov) and the Le Sueur County Emergency Management Facebook page(https://www.facebook.com/LSCEM), we will also be sending text messages to those who sign up for our text notification service. Please text LESUEURCOUNTYFLOOD to 91896 to opt in and sign up and receive updates on food relief.

If you have a refrigerator or freezer sitting on your property outside of your home, for safety reasons please REMOVE THE DOORS.

Solid Waste Disposal

Le Sueur County and the City of Waterville will be accepting flood debris drop off south of the Waterville city garage beginning Saturday, June 29th. The following materials will be accepted: sandbags, appliances and electronics, demolition and solid waste (eg. sheetrock, carpet, wood, etc.), tires, and household waste (eg. chemicals). Please have materials separated before drop off. THIS IS FOR ALL COUNTY RESIDENTS.

FOR THOSE WHO NEED ASSISTANCE WITH CLEAN UP:
Please call City Hall at 507-362-8300 and let us know what help you need:
1.  Do you need help at your residence loading your debris into your vehicle to dispose of your items?
2.  Do you need help getting your debris into a volunteer's truck to take to the disposal site?
or
3.  Do you need help loading your debris into a volunteer's truck and hauling the items to the disposal site?

When you call, please give us your name, address and contact phone number and you will be placed on a list for whatever your need is.

We have a few organizations that will be volunteering their services:

RECOVERY GUIDANCE FOR LE SUEUR COUNTY RESIDENTS
If you have a chemical, agricultural chemical, or oil spill, notify the Minnesota Duty Officer at 1-800-422-0798.
If you have damaged manure storage and need to land apply or if you need guidance on animal mortality disposal, call the Le Sueur County Environmental Services at 507-357-8538.
It is very important to separate debris for later proper disposal. During your cleanup, separate debris into the following categories:
• Demolition: lumber, bricks, sheetrock, shingles, and concrete. These items are to be taken to a licensed demolition landfill either by the landowner or a licensed contractor (check with your insurance agent if they hire the contractor). The licensed demolition landfills or transfer stations in the area are
• Dem-Con Landfill at 3230 W. 130th Street, Shakopee (landfill) or 13020 Dem-Con Drive Shakopee (office). Telephone number is 952-445-5755 and open Monday – Friday 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM and Saturdays from 7 AM to 12 PM April through November.
• Hansen Recycling and Transfer at 636 E Pearl St, Kasota. Telephone number is 507-625-8891 and open Monday – Friday from 8 AM to 4:30 PM.
• Minnesota Paving and Materials–Pilgrims Demo on 231st Ln, Mankato. Telephone Number is 507-388-3122.
• Timm’s Trucking and Excavating at 24366 Holland Ave, Morristown. Telephone number is 507-685-2222. Open Monday – Friday from 7:30 AM to 5 PM and Saturdays from 8 AM to 11:30 AM.
• Household Hazardous Waste: paint, solvents, paint thinners, batteries, and thermostats that contain mercury.
• The Blue Earth County Household Hazardous Waste Facility, located at 651 Summit Avenue, Mankato (off 3rd Avenue), is open on Tuesday from 12 PM to 6 PM, Wednesday from 12 PM to 4 PM, Thursday from 12 PM to 4 PM, and the 2nd Saturday of the month from 8 AM to 12 PM.
• The Scott County Household Hazardous Waste Facility, located at 588 Country Trail East, Jordan (on MN Hwy 282), is open on Wednesday from 12 PM to 6 PM, Thursday from 12 PM to 4 PM, and Saturday from 8 AM to 12 PM.
• Metal: Alter Trading Corporation is located at 804 Industrial Road, Mankato and telephone number is 507-387-6504 and Mankato Iron and Metal located at 215 W Elm Street, Mankato and telephone number is 507-625-6489.
• Tires: Liberty Tire Recycling located at 12498 Wyoming Ave South, Savage and telephone number: 952-894-5280.
• Appliances: refrigerators, stoves, clothes washer and dryer, microwave, air conditioner can be disposed of at Green Tech Recycling at 205 W Spring St, Mankato and telephone number is 507-344-1315.
• Electronics: TVs, VCRs, DVDs, stereos, computer equipment, cell phones can be disposed of at Green Tech Recycling at 205 W Spring St, Mankato and telephone number is 507-344-1315.
• Carpet, clothing, furniture, and other mixed solid waste:
• Blue Earth County Ponderosa Landfill is located at 20028 Gooseberry Lane, Mankato (6 miles SW of Mankato). Telephone number is 507-304-4251. Open Monday – Friday from 8 AM to 4:30 PM and Saturday from 8 AM to 12 PM.
• Asbestos: If you have identified or confirmed on-site (siding, shingles, or insulation), please carefully separate and call the Environmental Services Department at 507-357-8538 for more information.

CITY PROVIDED WATER

If you are connected to the City's water system. We continue to test and monitor the drinking water, our water continues to be safe to consume. 

PRIVATE WELL WATER

Due to the recent flooding, there is a heightened risk of private well water contamination. If you rely on private well water for your household, please take the following precautions immediately to ensure your safety:

  1. Stop Using Well Water: Avoid using your well water for drinking, cooking, and bathing until it has been tested and confirmed safe.
  2. Use Bottled Water: Use bottled water or water from a known safe source for all drinking and cooking needs.
  3. Get Your Water Tested: Have your well water tested by a certified laboratory for contaminants such as bacteria, nitrates, and chemicals.

Le Sueur County is working on acquiring free lab tests for residents impacted by the flood. More information will be released once this has been established. WASTEWATER BYPASS AND DISCHARGE NOTIFICATION

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

City of Waterville: Wastewater Bypass and Discharge Notification

The City of Waterville issuing an important update regarding the ongoing flooding situation. Due to unprecedented water levels and strain on the wastewater treatment infrastructure, wastewater is currently being bypassed and discharged onto the streets. The State Duty Officer has been contacted and we are following all Minesota Pollution Control Association (MPCA) requirements.

  • Emergency Measure: The bypass and discharge are necessary to manage the overwhelming volume of water and protect critical infrastructure.
  • Public Health: Residents are advised to avoid contact with standing water in the streets to minimize potential health risks.
  • Ongoing Monitoring: The situation is being closely monitored in collaboration with the MPCA to ensure public safety and environmental protection.
  • Community Cooperation: Please adhere to safety advisories and avoid affected areas whenever possible.

FLOOD IMPACT DEBRIS DISPOSAL

Many residents and businesses are beginning flood clean-up. The following needs to be considered as clean-up takes place: 

  • Flood damaged debris is considered contaminated and MUST be disposed of properly at a licensed and approved disposal site.
  • Le Sueur County Environmental Services has created the following guide with specific direction related to different types of debris and a list of approved disposal sites. https://www.lesueurcounty.gov/DocumentCenter/View/6136/Debris-Management-Document_Flooding_2024
  • DO NOT dump debris in ditches or roadways.
  • DO NOT burn debris.
  • Be wary of potential scams and only utilize disposal sites that are licensed and approved by the State of Minnesota.
